Quest for Entropy is written by Marijus Masteika. Entropy was always the dark horse for me — connected to information, and maybe hiding answers to everything. That's the quest.
What this is
I build small deterministic machines — toy universes — and count what happens inside them. The question running through the whole series is whether the things we call irreducibly random might be mechanisms seen by an observer too small to compute them. Not a claim about our universe. A question an engineer can actually test, by building one and looking.
How it's made
I'm a software architect. Physics and the deep math here are not my profession — they're what I'm curious about, and in my spare time I use AI to explore them and learn. The honest division of labour: the heavy lifting — the math, the physics checks, the code, the computations — is done by AI, with me setting the direction, asking the questions, and making the calls.
To keep us honest, the work runs through a harness I built: experiments follow rules fixed in advance, results get challenged by independent AI review, and every mistake we catch goes into an honesty ledger. Every number in the series comes from code you can run, not from a model's memory.
What you can check
Every episode ships a companion repository that regenerates its numbers and figures with one command, and an archived, citable snapshot with a DOI. When a machine fails — and they mostly fail — the failure gets published with the same detail as the successes. A model that explains everything and forbids nothing is mysticism with extra steps.
